Clearly joining commuters on a train and tube journey to Cheapside, London every day had an effect. In my late teens now, I could drive to parties with the girls in Abbots Road rather than wish I could talk to them at a bus stop.

The world seemed a dark and dangerous place, with tracks like The Doors’ The End having quite an effect, as did continuing dramatic tv coverage of Vietnam.
